The human brain evolved in a world of scarcity — a world in which it did not know when (or even if) it would get the resources it needed to survive.
Because of this, our brains developed multiple methods to manage in a world of scarcity. Even though many of us are no longer at risk of experiencing life-threatening shortages, our brains are often still stuck in patterns that evolved over thousands of years. Sometimes this can lead to ineffective behaviors and mental health disorders.
One of the most common versions of the scarcity mindset run amok is typically referred to as hoarding. In this session, we will explore hoarding and other effects of the scarcity mindset, as well as what we can do to function more effectively in a world of plenty.
